Reading Readiness Kits
Lending Policy

Kits are provided by the Southwest Wisconsin Library System (SWLS)

Public libraries can arrange for delivery of kits on the SWLS Delivery Van
Day care providers can arrange for kit pick-up with their local public library

These multimedia storytime kits are designed for use by public librarians and day care personnel working with preschool children. Each kit focuses on a theme and includes many types of materials: books, videos filmstrips, music, flannel board stories, prop stories, puppets, games, etc.

Lending Policy

Kits may be borrowed by public libraries and day care providers in the Southwest Wisconsin LIbrary System service area. This includes Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Lafayette, and Richland Counties.

Kits are checked out for two weeks and must be returned on time. Failure to do so will result in loss of kit borrowing privileges. Kits may not be renewed. Only one kit may be borrowed at a time.

Kits reserved by area day care providers are expected to be picked up at and returned to your local public library. A valid library card from an SWLS member public library is necessary for check-out.

Items in kits are not to be used as toys for a single child's entertainment, but are to be used with an adult to promote reading readiness in a group setting. Damage to and loss of kit material will be assessed and charged according to impact on future use of the kit. Materials that must be replaced will be charged according to current replacement costs in addition to the standardized processing charge.
