Library Tour Program 2021-2022

With extra funding for continuing education (CE) from IMLS, SWLS invites you to visit other public libraries. This will also be an opportunity to earn CE hours for certification. All participants are required to submit their forms and/or reports within 30 days after the tour. Please share photos and/or videos of your tour with Shauna at SWLS! With your permission, they will be shared with your colleagues in 2022.

Forms you’ll need

Who is eligible for reimbursement?

Any paid staff member, volunteer, or trustee from a SWLS library. All reimbursements must be approved by the Library’s Director and the SWLS CE Validator, Shauna Koszegi

Timeline & budget

Cycle 1  ♦ Now – February 2022

Each library will be reimbursed up to 350 miles to tour libraries, and up to $20 for food. Reimbursements cannot cover alcoholic beverages. The current IRS mileage reimbursement rate is $0.585, which is how you’ll calculate your reimbursement.

__ miles x .585 + $__ = reimbursement total

Cycle 2 ♦ March 2022 – June 2022

In February 2022, SWLS will calculate how much is left of the budget, and communicate with SWLS libraries on next steps.

Can staff time be reimbursed?

If there is a barrier to participation (i.e. an employee works limited hours, you have limited funds for continuing education, etc.), then yes, however the maximum reimbursement for mileage + an hourly wage is $196, per library, through February. Please contact Shauna, at SWLS, to report hourly wages so that SWLS can complete the reimbursement.

How can I earn CE hours?

Read the Checklist and Reports for CE Hours Form. You can earn up to 3 hours if you complete the checklist.

How do I calculate CE Hours?

This program is worth 3 hours total. Below is an optional breakdown of each activity.

= 3 hours total

Driving time cannot be applied toward certification.

How do I visit multiple libraries and earn more CE hours?

Choose from the following options:

  • Use the same document and three questions from the checklist, tour another library, and submit your responses. Note: you cannot count the time it took to read the document more than once. You may earn up to 1.5 hours.
  • Read the other document and questions, tour a library, and submit your responses. You may earn up to 3 hours.
  • You may earn up to 15 hours if you decide to repeat either of these options.

What if I don’t need CE hours?

To receive reimbursement, submit a Library Feedback Form after your tour, as well as a Mileage Form to Shauna at SWLS.
