Technology Committee

The purpose of the Technology Committee is to serve as a forum for discussion and play an advisory role to the Public Library Advisory Committee (PLAC) and SWLS staff on matters concerning all technology services provided by SWLS. This committee plays an important role in the creation and evaluation of the SWLS Technology and Resource Sharing Plan.

Technology Reserve Fund

Libraries contribute to the Technology Reserve Fund as part of their payments to SWLS each year. These funds are held for potential projects (like migrating to a new ILS), and for grant opportunities for SWLS libraries. The purpose of this grant is to assist SWLS member libraries with the implementation of specific and measurable projects that may not be possible without the support of funds beyond an individual library’s annual operating budget.

All SWLS member libraries may apply for funds; however, priority will be given to those that have contributed to the Technology Reserve in the past three years. Please read the full grant guidelines before applying.

LSTA Technology Grants

The LSTA tech “sparsity” grant funds are available to assist with technology needs or for a collaborative project. This money is awarded by DPI to SWLS each year, and there are often funds available to purchase equipment for libraries that would otherwise fall outside of library budgets. LSTA funding isn’t necessarily equipped for “ongoing projects”, however it can, for example, go toward a multi-year contract.
